Functions of NSHRC

Under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, NSHRC performs the following key functions:

❶ Inquire into any violation of human rights suo motu or on petition
❷ Intervene in court proceedings involving human rights allegations
❸ Visit jails and detention places to study living conditions
❹ Review constitutional safeguards for human rights protection
❺ Study international instruments and recommend effective implementation
❻ Undertake and promote research in the field of human rights
❼ Spread human rights literacy among citizens of Nagaland
❽ Encourage NGOs working in the field of human rights
